Legendary British drummer Martin Atkins, of PiL, Nine Inch Nails, Pigface and Killing Joke fame interviewed me last Friday Morning August 26th over breakfast at the outside cafe of Chicago’s W Hotel. In recent years besides playing music Martin founded and ran the highly respected Indie label, Invisible Records and wrote Tour-Smart, tan amazing guide for Touring Bands. In addition he been lecturing at various colleges, universities, seminars and events.
I hadn’t seen Martin in a while and our relationship has always been fairly good but we had endured a bit of a Rock and Roll rollercoaster. I use to manage PiL when Martin was in it, that’s a whole story in itself. Most recently I have gained a great new respect for Martin who like myself is now going out of his way to help today and tomorrow’s bands get prepared for battle. In as much I have sponsored his music school and his Tour-Smart Survival Guide for SXSW.
We started with a basic chat over coffee and then he took his camera out of his bag. As he did this the waitress, a beautiful young blonde woman in her twenties came over and introduced herself then went on to tell Martin she took his class at her university and he was the best teacher she ever had. Then after a minute or so she mentioned her band Glittermouse and how they were doing well and it went on from there. I gave her one of my books, we’re now FB friends, I like her band, etc.
This actually is a part of what’s it’s all about, Networking. Then Martin asked me a few really good questions and the next day we’re up on YouTube, on his Invisible TV Channel.
